September 2026

Back-to-School Shoe Drive

In September 2026 the annual Back-to-School Shoe Drive will be led by FOP Vice President Vassell O'Gilvie and Give Back Jamaica President Hopeton Brown. The shoe program has been a signature initiative for Give Back Jamaica, and FOP deeply appreciates this meaningful collaboration. Children in primary schools benefit by receiving new shoes for the school year — this year's goal is to deliver 300 pairs of shoes to seven primary schools in the surrounding Manchester Porus community.

Breakfast Program

Understanding that a nutritious start to the day is vital for our young students, we took the initiative to launch a free breakfast program. This program provides a wholesome and nourishing breakfast to the children at Porus Infant School and Porus Primary. A healthy breakfast not only fuels their bodies but also supports their focus and learning throughout the school day, contributing to the overall well-being and academic success of our young learners.

Needs Based Grants

During the course of the year, the Friends of Porus Association Inc. extends assistance to individuals grappling with financial challenges, focusing on their specific needs. As an organization, we have granted two needs-based scholarships to students in Porus, and continue to fund grants as donations allow.

Computers Donated to Porus Library

The Friends of Porus Association takes pride in our donation of three computers to the Porus Library, a significant step in advancing literacy and community development. While that project reached successful completion, we believe it is just the beginning of our collaborative efforts. With your support through future in-kind donations we aim to forge a lasting partnership with the library, provide additional resources, and expand educational opportunities for the community of Porus.
